Agriculture and pumping

Energy for irrigation and pumping where the grid doesn’t reach.

Irrigation pumps and farm equipment are often far from the power grid. Solar and battery storage can supply pumping and other productive activities with less reliance on fuel, depending on the resource available and the hours of operation.

Running without the grid or a generator depends on the pump power, the irrigation hours and the solar resource.

01The challenge

Extending the grid to a remote pump can be costly, and running a generator means hauling fuel. On top of that, starting a motor takes more power than running it.

02What the goal is
03The approach

Solar panels and a battery unit are installed near the pump. Solar supplies the pumping during the day and recharges the battery, which extends the operation when sunlight fades. For pumps that change location there are portable units; for irrigating at night without sun, units that combine battery and generator.

04Use cases
  1. Drip and sprinkler irrigation

Pumping for drip or sprinkler systems in areas far from the grid.

  2. Wells and reservoirs

Drawing and storing water for irrigation or farm use.

  3. Farm facilities

Storage sheds, machine rooms and farm housing.

05What shapes each project

Every unit has its datasheet and manual published, and inverter–battery compatibility is documented.

Questions about agriculture and pumping

Can a Roxon unit start a pump?

It depends on the pump’s starting current. Each unit’s datasheet states its peak power; compare it with the motor’s starting figure before choosing.
